Play every day!

My philosophy of “Play Every Day” is rooted in the idea that “the way you live your days is the way you live your life.”

I discovered this idea a few years ago and it has totally transformed the way I think about two concepts: life’s goals and time.

When it comes to goals, I’ve always been more of go with the flow kind of person. I’ve never had a grand masterplan for life and living which has guided my every action. I’ve fully dedicated myself to the opportunities I have had and seized every one of them instead of always thinking of what next. What I’ve realised though is that if I don’t know where I am going then I’m not sure I’ll ever get there. I also learnt that goals should not be unidimensional and just work oriented. It’s great to have goals for all spheres of your life from work to hobbies to relationships to fitness to nutrition to meditation to anything else that is dear to you. This led me to this notion that I must fully immerse, enjoy and be present in every activity that I choose to engage in. That is “play” for me” - the state in which I am in the flow and producing, creating, living…

When it comes to time, I’ve never been a time waster but I now realise that I haven’t been strategic about how I spend my day. I now recognise that time is the most precious asset that I have to achieve my goals and that I am must be super mindful and disciplined about every day. Anything I want to achieve - whether that is spending more quality time with my children or writing my next book – has to find an allocated time in the day.

So putting these two ideas together, I love the idea of “Play Every Day.” It is a constant reminder to me to do the things that give me joy and satisfaction and to do them with the greatest levels of attention and engagement. And to ensure that I’m chipping away at my goals every day, working towards a vision that I’ve set for myself that I may revisit from time to time.
