Last May, I was one of the speakers for the first ever 24 hour webinar by Landor & Fitch. I was very nervous while preparing as the idea of going live from my laptop at home to hundreds watching online!

I wrote the script and kept practicing, attempting to memorise it. This is when my 11 year old daughter, Riva, asked if she could “take up” my speech! I was a bit hesitant at but gave in. From her first piece of advice to just relax and smile more, I knew this girl was going to help me raise my game. The most useful feedback Riva gave me was to stop being robotic and to start emoting more. As the listener, she was not getting drawn into what I was saying. She wanted me to be fully present and give my hundred percent passion. I took many points of her feedback and I’m pleased to share that it went off quite well. Passion is indeed the magic ingredient!

I never thought that such a young person with no experience of the corporate world would have anything to teach me. How wrong was I.

Riva opened my eyes to the fact that we can learn so much from the Next Generation if we only listened without any biases.

What lessons have you learnt from the younger generation? Are you making sure to tap into their wisdom often enough?
