Some knowledge of Sanskrit got me hired at Landor! Anthony Shore had interviewed me for the position of Naming Manager at the San Francisco office. Sanskrit on my resume popped out as he believed it could be new fertile ground for exploring unique names for certain briefs as Latin and Greek were overused hunting grounds. I went on to work closely with Anth for several years. He is the world’s foremost naming guru now and I am so lucky to have learnt the strategic, creative and sales aspects of naming from him. Not only that but also how the name is the starting point of the brand’s story and what a ginormous difference a good name can make to your brand building efforts.

Anth’s precision, intensity and passion for words is a real joy to watch. I soaked up everything I could and years later when I set-up Landor in India, I put many of my learnings to use. This helped us to develop many unique brand names for our Indian clients including Digit, Vivanta, Ginger, Azva, Nayara Energy, NorthernArc Capital, Evara, Zone by the Park, Senvion, Irasva, Dvara Trust, Alturas and Cuddle.ai.

What’s in a name? Let’s just say quite a lot of logic and magic!
