Through Sumit Roy, I met Sridhar Ramanathan at Ogilvy who is considered the father of direct marketing in India. Sridhar was setting up Ogilvy Consulting and Sumit had felt that I would be a great fit. Sridhar interviewed me and offered me my first job as brand consultant on his team. I was also the first hire for his new venture.

The one thing that Sridhar practiced which has stayed with me is the importance of time. How to respect it and value it. And how to use it to your advantage: arrive early before meetings and linger on a bit. A superb way to know clients as people and also pick up invaluable information about the client, the brand, the pitch, competitors and just about everything else. It has helped me create a reputation as someone who always shows up early for meetings. I have to admit though that this has been harder to implement in the Covid-19 era of back-to-back Teams and Zoom calls.
